Imagine a mountain bike submerged under the ocean, wheels turning gracefully, bubbles trailing like shimmering ribbons, and the surreal choreography of a mountain biker moving weightlessly underwater with a pipefish meandering by. It's not just a visual spectacle; it illustrates the joy of pushing boundaries and reimagining what's possible. And don't worry, no coral or sea life were harmed during this shoot.
When Mark and I set out to document mountain biking stories across the globe, we wanted to do more than showcase trails. The logistics were daunting-managing air tanks, submerging the "sacrificial bicycle" safely, and figuring out how to frame each shot in an unpredictable underwater environment-but the reward was extraordinary: a scene unlike anything anyone had ever seen before.
This sequence also reflects the emotional core of our work: celebrating the human spirit's creativity, resilience, and playfulness. It's not just about technical feats or jaw-dropping visuals; it's about capturing the essence of adventure and the joy of exploration. By combining two seemingly incompatible activities-mountain biking and underwater exploration-we created something both whimsical and profound.

My commercial for Lotus Cars, The Creator, has a single moment that I feel typifies my work. The commercial is fast-paced and tightly-edited, but at one point we cut to a wide shot of our deity-like character standing on the shores of a primordial Earth; black clouds gather overhead, waves crash, and lightning flashes across the sky. As just a single frame, this is one of my favorites. However, it goes deeper than that. It reflects my work because the original footage looks very little like the finished scene. A lot of color grading and VFX work is involved in that scene but to such a standard that it's invisible to a casual viewer.
